Course Description
Take a leisurely ride around the four Shikoku Sacred Sites in Kokufu Town, Tokushima: Jorakuji Temple (No. 14), Awa Kokubunji Temple (No. 15), Kannonji Temple (No. 16), and Idoji Temple (No. 17). Become a novice pilgrim. Visit each temple and meet with other pilgrims.
Caution Areas
The streets are narrow in the residential area. Slow down and ride slowly, and watch out for pedestrians and cars.
Challenging Sections
There are no steep hills, but it is easy to get lost in the town area. Use the "pilgrim" mark paths as you ride through the town.
Highlights
The four temples are located within a small area, making it ideal for a relaxed cycling tour while following the waymarkers used by walking pilgrims. Kokubunji Temple features one of Japan’s most impressive gardens, known for its dynamic stone arrangements (admission fee required), and it can be enjoyed even outside of pilgrimage purposes. At Idoji Temple, there is a legendary well said to have been dug by Kobo Daishi. It is believed that if you look into the well and can see your reflection, you will be blessed with good health and free from illness.
