Course Description

In spring, many flowers such as plum blossoms, peach blossoms, and mountain cherry blossoms bloom. In autumn, you can enjoy the abundance of nature such as red spider lilies and autumn leaves in the mountain village. View the grand Lake Bishu from the Ichikyucha Tea House. Although the course is short, it is worth completing it.

Caution Areas

There are many downhill sections on this course, so please ride with caution and watch your speed. When going down towards Lake Bishu, be careful of moss and fallen rocks.

Challenging Sections

The road has lots of up and downs from start to finish, with long sections of hilly terrain. The incline becomes especially steep when climbing up from the front of Shin-Sakamoto Tunnel. On long inclines, try to change your position by standing up from your seat, sitting down, and even reposition your hands on the handlebar.

Highlights

Lake Bishu is another name for Masaki Dam Lake. The area around the lake is well maintained and offers outdoor activities like kayaking and fishing. At the turnaround point, Tsukigatani Onsen has a shop where you can enjoy ice cream made with local ingredients from Kamikatsu Town. Kamikatsu is the first town in Japan to declare a Zero Waste policy, and the entire town is committed to the initiative. Please remember to take all your trash with you when cycling.

Parking Lot (Start & Goal)

Hoshitani Athletic Park is the base on this course. It is equipped with restrooms. The park have a soccer field and a gate ball field available. The Katsuura River flows right next to the parking lot. After cycling on a hot day, cool your feet in the shallow waters.
