Course Data
Course Description
The old saying, "First Shosan, second Kakurin, third Tairyu," refers the steep and challenging slopes along the Shikoku pilgrimage route-so steep that pilgrims might feel like they would tumble downhill. While the climb can be tough, take it slow, focus on the path ahead, and you can reach the top. Once on top of the mountain, you will be rewarded with a majestic view.
Caution Areas
There are many steep slopes on the "Pilgrim Korogashi" path. Be careful not to ride too fast, especially on downhill slopes.
Challenging Sections
After you get off National Route 438, the slopes will be difficult to climb. The incline becomes steeper and steeper as you continue up the mountain. Be in good physical condition and be well-equipped before starting the course.
Highlights
The giant cedar trees, each over 500 years old, are a majestic symbol of Yakushiji Temple. This is the second highest mountain temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and the view from the temple grounds is spectacular, with mountains such as Mt. Tsurugi and Mt. Shiraga stretching across the Shikoku mountain range. For those tired from the “Pilgrim Korogashi” path (the challenging pilgrim route), Hotel Shikinosato & Iyashi no Yu “Kamiyama Onsen” is recommended for a relaxing soak (bathing only is available).
