Route
Course Description
After getting a taste of the Ohenro pilgrimage atmosphere by passing in front of the First Temple, Ryozen-ji, you’ll follow the Yoshino River upstream, riding alongside the traditional Udatsu townscape.
Caution Areas
Be cautious on busy roads like Prefectural Route 12, where the shoulders are narrow. In Wakimachi’s Udatsu district, there are many residential houses and tourists—please dismount and walk your bicycle slowly through this area.
Challenging Sections
The course is mostly flat, but the wind along the Yoshino River can be your greatest challenge. Depending on the season, the wind direction changes between headwind and tailwind, which affects the ride’s difficulty.
Highlights
Roadside Station “Ai Land Udatsu” is located next to the historic Udatsu townscape, which preserves the atmosphere of old indigo merchant town. Be sure to dismount and enjoy a stroll through the picturesque streets.
