Course Description

This course allows cyclists to enjoy the majestic scenery of the south. Mysterious temple grounds, the clear Kaifu River, a temple with a tranquil atmosphere, a tunnel that seem to be stuck in the past, and a fishing port where cyclists can see the people`s daily life. This course will make cyclists feel nostalgic while visiting famous places.

Caution Areas

Be careful on National Route 55 along the coastline as there is a lot of traffic including many large vehicles. Turn on your lights when entering the tunnels.

Challenging Sections

There are small ups and downs throughout the course. The coastline on National Route 55 may have strong winds time to time.

Highlights

This course offers the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery of southern Tokushima. Namikiri Fudōson is surrounded by tall trees and moss, creating a mystical atmosphere that feels like another world. Jōman-ji Temple is the oldest Zen temple in Shikoku. At Saba Daishi Temple, there is a statue of Kōbō Daishi holding a mackerel in one hand, based on a local legend. Nearby, there is a popular shop among cyclists that sells daifuku (sweet rice cakes). The mochi is soft and has a smooth texture.

Awa-Kainan Bunkamura serves as the base for this course. This cultural center is also the departure and arrival point for the Dual Mode Vehicle (DMV), the world`s first vehicle that runs on both roads and train tracks. Take a ride on the DMV.
