Course Data
Course Description
This course goes through Iya Valley, an unexplored region that has a different appearance with each season. The rapids that run through the mountains of Shikoku created cliffs hundreds of meters high in some places many years ago. Cyclists will visit tourist attractions such as Iya Valley Observatory, Statue of a Peeing Boy, and the Vine Bridge.
Caution Areas
The road is narrow and visibility is poor in some places. There is a lot of traffic, so ride with caution. Be careful when riding on the mountain roads, especially when descending, as the roads are prone to falling rocks and have slippery spots.
Challenging Sections
Most of the course is long and uphill, as is typical for a mountainous area. Keep at your own pace while cycling and sightseeing.
Highlights
The view from the Peeing Boy Statue overlooking the Iya Valley is breathtaking, and the Vine Bridge, designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property by both the national and prefectural governments, offers a thrilling experience. Below the bridge, the clear stream of the Iya River flows through the gorge. Around the bridge area, you'll find well-stocked souvenir shops and local specialties such as “Dekomawashi” (skewered and grilled tofu, konjac, and other ingredients) and salt-grilled ayu (sweetfish), all cooked over charcoal. Iya Onsen Sato Inn offers day-use plans, so you can also enjoy a relaxing soak in a hidden hot spring.
