Course Description

The artistic earth pillars were formed when sedimentary layers rose up and were eroded by wind and rain for over a million years. The pillars are designated as a national natural monument. Visitors can enjoy the view from the observatory and climb up to the top of the pillar on a well-maintained walking trail. The dynamic scenery is breathtaking.

Caution Areas

Be careful not to ride too fast downhill. Although there are a few cars on the road, be cautious on National Route 192 in the latter half of the course as there is a lot of traffic.

Challenging Sections

Overall, the course has many ups and downs. The route up to Roadside Station "Donari" on National Route 318 and Cherry Road on Prefectural Route 43 has a continuous slope.

Highlights

The sand pillars have a well-maintained walking trail, allowing visitors to climb to the top for an even better view. Tarai udon is served in a large wooden tub along with its hot cooking water—be sure to drain the noodles slightly on the edge of the tub before dipping them, so the broth doesn’t get watered down. In spring, the Cherry Line is lined with beautiful cherry blossoms. Misato is a peaceful countryside village designated as a National Natural Monument for being a natural habitat of fireflies across the entire area.
